A Sad Announcement

As literary executor of Edmund St James, and therefore administrator of the Edmund St James blog, it is my sad duty to announce the recent decease of Edmund St James.

Edmund, who was both a dear friend of mine and a valued member of the St Anacletus congregation, lost his life in a tragic accident the Sunday before last. It seems that he was quietly enjoying with his mother the displays at at the Auckland Domain wintergardens the Sunday before last when, inexplicably, his mother's wheelchair ran into one of the ponds. Edmund tragically drowned in a heroic attempt to rescue her.

Edmund's funeral was a deeply moving occasion, and we will shortly be publishing tributes from some of Edmund's many friends and admirers. It is also my intention to set up a trust fund and work towards publishing some of the excellent and creditable works that Edmund left behind in his voluminous papers.

I mourn the loss of a man who was both a dear friend and a wonderful support in the work of this parish.

Tribute to Edmund

I don't think I could have had a nicer and more friendly neighbour than Edmund. He was often out in his garden when I was out in mine, and we would always exchange smiles over the garden fence (I think it was a smile, anyway).

Another tribute to Edmund

Edmund's death is a tragic loss. He always bought his fruit and vegetables here at my shop, the most excellent of all produce, and I recall that he was absolutely very fond of pineapples.

Dear Edmund

Poor, dear Edmund is a most sad loss. I knew his dear mother well some years ago, when we were both active members of the Library Decency League. Those glorious and fondly remembered days that we spent removing filth, indency and putrid corruption from the bookshelves (girls sleeping with bears! Jacks planting seeds! Mice and other ... And never was our work more needed than in these vile, corrupt and degenerate times when ... [Note: content has been removed here by the administrator of this blog, Fr. AGO'B].

Every cloud has a silver lining...
just ask God.

Far be it for me to advise the blessed, but I do feel that dear, brave Edmund and his mother have presented us with a golden opportunity to save other drowning souls.
I propose that we consider renaming our beloved church in honour of his act. Church of Sub-St Edmund, the Thousand and First Martyr, seems a worthy mouthful. Or is he #1002, following his mother?
Without being unchristian... celebrating this local martyrdom may well attract drowning strays such as Rose O'Gorman out of the garden and back into the flock. (Some of her flowers would be welcome additions in the congregation's floral arrangments, where she can be assured that their quality will go uncommented.)
So, do I have a seconder?

A tribute to Edmund St James

Oh woe is me, such a tagic loss. I will miss the late dearly departed Edmund St James and his late mother, not to mention hearing the squeaking springs of his mother's rusting wheelchair as it was being pushed, by Edmund, into the foyer of our glorious Church of St Anacletus and the Thousand Martyrs for the noonday service each Sunday. May their souls rest in eternal peace and their wisdom and wit be forever immortalised in our memory.
